Frederik Kratzert is a MSc student at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna in Austria and a student assistant at the Institute of Water Management, Hydrology and Hydraulic Engineering. In his work and for his master thesis, he is developing a software for automatized fish detection and migration monitoring in video observed fish ladders. The thesis is part of a research project funded by the VERBUND Austrian Hydropower AG. Since fish monitoring was always a time and cost intensive work, the project aims at developing a new monitoring system that reduces the need for manual work by automating as much of the monitoring as possible. At the same time this new approach reduces the stress imposed on the fish during the monitoring. In the poster, he presented the overall structure of the program as well of some of the key features. Since the system is already in use in several fish ladders across Austria, example videos were shown during the poster presentation.
