Benedikt Ahrens is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Geology, Mineralogy and Geophysics at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB), Germany, supervised by Prof. Jörg Renner. As part of the SHynergie project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, they experimentally and numerically determine hydro-mechanical parameters of rocks contributing to a better characterization of geothermal reservoirs. Currently, Benedikt’s research focuses on laboratory investigations of the frequency dependence of the effective elastic properties of fractured rocks. He is further interested in understanding the hydro-mechanical coupling in reservoir rocks during elastic and inelastic deformation.
