Auwal Farouk Abdussalam is a PhD research student at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. His current research is focused on the relationships and impacts of climate change and variability on selected climate-sensitive infectious diseases. He developed and validated suites of regional statistical models capable of explaining and predicting meningitis and cholera in Nigeria, West Africa. Models that he specifically designed for climate change studies were applied to assess the future potential risk of climate on these diseases up to the end of 21st century. Before he commences his PhD programme, he was involved in research, mentoring, and tutoring undergraduate students at Kaduna State University, Nigeria. The awarded poster summarises results of his recent research on the assessment of possible impact of climate change on meningitis in northwest Nigeria, using CMIP5 climate model simulations.
