Adina E. Püsök is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Geosciences, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany, supervised by Prof. Boris Kaus. Her research interests lie in understanding the dynamics of continental collisions using numerical models, with particular focus on the India-Asia collision zone. The poster presented at the EGU General Assembly 2014 shows results from 3D numerical simulations in which the role of subduction, continental collision and indentation at convergent margins was investigated in an India-Asia-like model. Special emphasis was placed on understanding how large topographic plateaus can form in an integrated lithospheric and upper-mantle scale model. The results suggest that external forcing and the presence of strong blocks within the Asian lithosphere, such as the Tarim Basin, are necessary to create anomalously high topographic fronts and plateaus, analogous to the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau.
