Christine Batchelor is a PhD student at the Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge. Her 2013 EGU poster details the primary results of her thesis, in which high-resolution two-dimensional seismic reflection data are used to interpret the seismic stratigraphy and architecture of the Canadian Beaufort Sea margin. The number of Quaternary ice advances across the Beaufort Sea continental shelf is shown to vary markedly between the Mackenzie Trough (two) and the Amundsen Gulf Trough (at least nine). Whereas the slope beyond the Mackenzie Trough lacks a significant glacial-sedimentary depocentre, major trough-mouth fans are present beyond the Amundsen Gulf and M’Clure Strait troughs. Ice streams in Amundsen Gulf and M’Clure Strait delivered large quantities of ice and sediment from the Laurentide Ice Sheet to the Arctic Ocean through much of the Quaternary.
