ERE Energy, Resources and the Environment
The 2012 Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Award is awarded to Tija Sīle for the poster/PICO entitled:
Estimation of wind regime from combination of RCM and NWP data in the Gulf of Riga (Baltic Sea) (Sīle, T.; Seņņikovs, J.; Bethers, U.)

Tija Sīle is a PhD student at the Laboratory for Mathematical Modelling of Environmental and Technological Processes, University of Latvia (UL). Her research interests are in mathematical modelling, currently – in developing atmospheric modelling capabilities at UL that would allow for research in sea – atmosphere interactions. The poster discusses results from a project that seeks to establish the areas suitable for wind energy development in the Gulf of Riga (Baltic Sea). The average wind speed is estimated combining data from Regional Climate Models (RCM) and Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models using the quantile mapping method.
