Marianthi Podimata is a PhD student in the Department of Civil Engineering – University of Patras, in Greece, under the supervision of Panayotis Yannopoulos, Assoc. Professor. Her research focuses on applications of Integrated River Basin Management. She holds two Bachelor Degrees in ‘Management of Rural Environment and Natural Resources’ (University of Thessaly, Greece) and ‘Studies in Natural Sciences’(Hellenic Open University). She also graduated two Master Degrees in ‘Urban – Regional Planning and Regional Development’ (University of Thessaly) and in ‘Water Resources and Environment’(University of Patras). She works for the Water Agency of Western Greece (starting from 2006 till today). The awarded poster presented at the EGU 2012 summarizes results of recent work on areas with pollution risk in Erymanthos River Basin (Peloponnisos Peninsula, Greece) and suggests the location of suitable buffer zones and small technical works as cost-effective and health- safeguarding solutions.
