The 2012 Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Award is awarded to Helen Pillar for the poster/PICO entitled:
The Dependence of the Atlantic Overturning Circulation on Meridional Density Gradients (Pillar, H. R.; Marshall, D. P.; Johnson, H. L.)

Helen Pillar is a PhD student in the Department of Earth Sciences at Oxford University, supervised by Dr Helen Johnson and Professor David Marshall. Her research interests lie in understanding the dynamics of the large scale ocean circulation, with a particular focus on the Atlantic meridional overturning. The poster presented at the EGU General Assembly 2012 proposed a novel way of elucidating the processes setting the strength and structure of the overturning. Preliminary results indicate that meridional density gradients right on the western boundary play a key role.
