GMPV Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Petrology & Volcanology
The 2011 Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Award is awarded to Barbara Kunz for the poster/PICO entitled:
A mid-crustal metamorphic field gradient in Val Strona di Omegna, Italy: constraints from metabasic rocks (Kunz, B. E.; Johnson, T. E.; White, R. W.)
Barbara Kunz recently finished her diploma in Geology at the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz, Germany. She has been a part of the Department of Metamorphic Geology, under the supervision of Prof. White and Dr Tim Johnson, where she has been working on amphibolite to granulite facies metabasic rocks. The principal aim of her project was to provide independent constraints on the metamorphic evolution of the lower crustal section of the Ivrea Zone, Italy. Therefore she did detailed field and thin section descriptions and interpretations, bulk rock and mineral chemical analysis (XRF and EMPA) and determination of P-T conditions via mineral equilibria modelling. The poster at the EGU General Assembly 2011 outlined the results of her diploma research.
