The 2011 Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Award is awarded to Anna Losiak for the poster/PICO entitled:

Anna Losiak is a PhD student at the Department of Lithospheric Research (University of Vienna) supervised by Prof. Christian Koeberl. Her research interest focuses on the analysis of the shock wave propagation at microscopic scale. The poster at the EGU General Assembly 2011 presents results of studies on development of specific combinations of planar deformation features (PDFs). This research shows that some of the studied quartz grains have combinations of PDF orientations that are unequivocally characteristic of beta quartz, even though beta quartz should not be stable at sample’s depth of origin. Three different models of development of beta-coordinated PDFs were proposed.
