ERE Energy, Resources and the Environment
The 2009 Young Scientist Outstanding Poster Paper (YSOPP) Award is awarded to Christian Vogt for the poster/PICO entitled:
Quantifying Uncertainties in Geothermal Energy Exploration (Vogt, C.; Mottaghy, D.; Rath, V.; Wolf, A.; Pechnig, R.; Clauser, C.)

Christian Vogt is a PhD student at the Institute of Applied Geophysics and Geothermal Energy, E.ON Energy Research Center, RWTH Aachen University (Germany). He is supervised by Prof. Dr. Christoph Clauser.
Currently, his research focuses on stochastic numerical modeling of geothermal reservoirs in all states of exploration and development. The poster on the EGU 2009 presented a methodical workflow using Monte Carlo simulations of rock property distributions (here: thermal conductivity and permeability) and constraining post-processing with temperature data to reduce temperature forecast uncertainties. Additionally, it shows the application of the workflow to a study of a geothermal reservoir in The Hague, Netherlands.
