This award, established in 2018, recognises researchers who have developed and implemented innovative and inclusive methods for engaging with and communicating a geoscience topic or event with a diverse audience. The award is named in honour of volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft, who dedicated their lives to documenting and sharing volcanological phenomena.

The award recognises the development and implementation of innovative science communication, outreach or engagement initiatives by a scientist that meets one or, preferably, both of the following criteria:

• Achieving excellence in developing innovative science communication, outreach or engagement initiatives that communicate a geoscience topic or event with a non-scientific audience.
• Making geoscience accessible to under-represented or hard-to-reach audiences through the excellent implementation of original science communication, outreach or engagement activities and by using innovative approaches to communicating with these audiences.

Nominees must be active researchers working in the Earth, planetary or space sciences who are not professional science communicators. Only the creator and/or central practitioner of the activity(ies) may be nominated. All past EGU medallists and awardees who have not previously received this award are eligible for it, though you can only receive the Katia and Maurice Krafft Award once in your lifetime.
