Robin George Andrews
The 2022 Angela Croome Award is awarded to Robin George Andrews for excellent science journalism across the space, planetary and geosciences, that engages broad audiences through various global print outlets.
Robin Andrews is a fantastic storyteller who engages broad audiences with a wide variety of different topics relevant to the space, planetary and geosciences. He regularly writes for leading publications across the world including The New York Times, Scientific American, National Geographic, and Wired to name a few. His work often highlights news concerning or relevant to Europe and European citizens, while other pieces are of global significance. Andrews employs an imaginative writing style which hooks people in and makes them care about the surprising science stories that he has thoroughly researched, while still presenting the arguments in an accurate and balanced way. This is something which is, in general, difficult to achieve. Andrews not only communicates scientific findings, but humanises science itself by introducing the scientists and their personalities to readers. This helps make the geosciences more accessible and compelling to general audiences. Overall, Andrews’ approach is exactly what the EGU should be promoting across science journalism and thus he is a deserved winner of the Angela Croome Award 2022.
