The EGU General Assembly, the largest geoscience meeting in Europe, will take place at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) for the next seven years. The EGU, through its conference organiser Copernicus, signed a contract with the Viennese congress centre a few years ago that guaranteed that the EGU General Assembly would stay in Vienna at least until 2019. The parties have now agreed to keep the meeting in the Austrian capital for a further five years, until 2024.

EGU Programme Committee Chair Susanne Buiter says: “The EGU is looking forward to hosting its annual General Assembly in Vienna in the coming years. The ACV is one of the few conference centres in Europe that gives us the flexibility we need to host 15,000 participants and over 17,000 presentations in different formats.”

Martin Rasmussen Managing Director at Copernicus agrees: “In the Austria Center Vienna we have a congress centre partner with 140 meeting rooms, which offers us enough flexibility to accommodate spontaneous programme changes.”

A survey of EGU General Assembly participants conducted a few years ago showed that over 90% of attendees enjoy the conference facilities at the ACV and the Austrian capital. “Vienna has good accessibility in terms of travel, and a wide range of accommodation options,” highlights Buiter.
