The elected Union President will be inaugurated as President-Elect (Vice-President) for one year term (2026–2027) during the plenary meeting of the next EGU General Assembly 2026. The person will then serve as the Union President during two years (2027–2029) starting from the plenary meeting of the EGU General Assembly in 2027, and lastly, serve as the Past-President (Vice-President) for one more year (2029–2030). The required conditions for applicants are available on the terms of reference page.

The General Secretary will be elected for two years (2026–2028). The elected candidate will be inaugurated during the plenary meeting of the EGU General Assembly 2026. The required conditions for applicants are available on the terms of reference page.

The Union representative of the Early Career Scientists (ECS) serves for a one year term (2027–2028), but will initially act as first Vice-representative the year before (2026–2027). After their term of office as the Union Early Career Scientist Representative has expired, they become the second Vice-representative (past representative) of the Union Early Career Scientists for one year (2028–2029). Candidates for the position are only eligible to participate in the election if they are Early Career Scientists at the time of the election, as per the definition of Early Career Scientist, and fulfil the selection criteria. The elected candidate will be inaugurated at the plenary meeting of the EGU General Assembly 2026. The required conditions for applicants are available on the terms of reference page.

The newly elected Division Presidents (Division Presidents-elect) will serve as Deputy Division Presidents for the first year (2026–2027), then as Division Presidents for the next two years (2027–2029). The terms start and end at the Plenary meeting, which is held during the General Assembly. Division Presidents can be elected for a second term and will not serve as Deputy Presidents a second time. Instead, a Deputy Division President will be appointed at the division meeting. Re-elected Division Presidents will serve as Division Presidents for 2027–2029. The required conditions for applicants are available on the terms of reference page.

All candidates are reviewed against the required conditions (terms of reference) by the EGU Council, before being proposed for election.
