The Horizon 2020 Programme is the European Union’s research funding framework that is giving almost €80 billion to research and innovation over 7 years (until the end of 2020).

In April 2018, the EGU together with the EFG, conducted the Horizon 2020 Geoscience Survey to collect feedback on areas of the EU’s Horizon 2020 research funding programme that the geoscience community felt should be continued or extended and those which could be improved upon in the upcoming EU research framework programme, Horizon Europe. This report is based on the key findings from the survey and displays both quantitative and qualitative answers from the 271 survey responses.

On Wednesday 26 September 2018, the European Geosciences Union together with the European Federation of Geologists hosted the Horizon Geoscience dinner debate. The Horizon Geoscience policy brief was constructed from both the discussions that were had during evening and the results of the Horizon 2020 Geoscience Survey.

Following the discussions during the dinner debate, this policy brief highlights the need for more effective collaboration between geoscience, policy and industry to meet Europe’s most pressing economic, social and environmental challenges and outlines the steps that can be taken to improve this collaboration.

This is a one-page document with an overview of the policy-related issues that the EGU researches and areas in which EGU scientists can support policymaking.

Science factsheets

The EGU has 22 different scientific divisions and our members are experts in a wide variety of policy relevant topics. We have an extensive database of scientists who are able to provide scientific evidence, answer technical questions within a short period of time or provide a factsheet on a geoscientific area.

Factsheets on geoscientific areas that have already been created by EGU scientific members are linked below.
