Join us on the first Monday of every month to discuss how researchers can more effectively engage with policymaking, get the scoop on upcoming science for policy opportunities, and virtually mingle in a relaxed, informal environment. You’ll be met with people working at the science-policy interface as well as others who may be interested in doing so!
This month, we will be hosting Anna Pellizzone who is currently working as citizens’ and stakeholder engagement expert at the Giannino Bassetti Foundation (FGB) and scientific advisor at the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources (IGG) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR). A natural scientist by training, she is working on a series of EU funded projects (e.g., HEU REINFORCING, HEU CO-VALUE). She was the co-coordinator of the Italian hub of FETA- Fair Energy Transition for All, cross EU project led by King Baudouin Foundation to design fair energy transition policies based on citizens' needs. Anna has a consolidated experience as lecturer, particularly on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), citizen engagement, and public deliberation for policymaking, as well as in the organisation and moderation of dissemination initiatives focusing on environmental sustainability issues.
Over the past two decades, EU research policy has increasingly recognised that scientific and technological development cannot be governed solely within expert or institutional domains. Meaningful interaction between science and society is necessary to ensure that research processes are inclusive and socially responsive. But how can citizens contribute to scientific developments? Anna will frame the concept of responsible innovation and present a concrete case study for discussion: a social-scientific research project focused on assessing the public perception of geothermal energy in the Aeolian Islands.
