European-based early career scientists (ECS) are invited to apply for the EGU’s ECS Policy Competition. The competition is open to all undergraduate or postgraduate (Masters/PhD) students and scientists who have received their highest degree (BSc, MSc, or PhD) within the past seven years.

The winner of the competition will receive a ticket to a Dinner Debate in Brussels on the evening of September 26, 2018. This event will be co-hosted by the EGU and EFG (the European Federation of Geologists) and will focus on the upcoming FP9 research funding programme in the context of the geosciences, as well as other geopolicy collaboration opportunities and challenges. Anticipated participants include members of the EU Commission and of the EU Parliament, the EGU Executive Board, as well as selected leaders within geoscience-related industries. The winner’s travel expenses and accommodation will be covered by the EGU.

The ECS Policy Competition will allow one early career scientist to network with other participants, gain experience in a European policy setting and learn about how geoscientists can help support Europe’s policy and needs.

To apply, please send your CV (max 1 page) and a one-page cover letter to the EGU Policy Officer Chloe Hill at policy@egu.eu by 15 May 2018. The cover letter should outline both your motivation for attending the Dinner Debate and an innovative science for policy activity that could be undertaken by the EGU to bridge the communication gap between scientists and policymakers/civil society. Please note that only complete applications in English can be accepted. Only early career scientists based in Europe who are active EGU members for 2018 are eligible to apply.
