The aim of the Planetary & Solar System Sciences (PS) Division is the promotion of all fields of planetary sciences, ground-based and space mission exploration of the solar system and beyond, and related models. PS covers papers on both fundamental and applied topics regarding the exploration of the solar system. The division, devoted to science applications in space, hosts interdisciplinary contributions on the origins and the evolution of the solar system and the exoplanetary systems, as well as ideas for future exploration while largely contributing to outreach and educational activities for all audiences.
The 2024 David Bates Medal is awarded to Franck Montmessin for his key contributions to understanding the water cycle on Mars and his innovative instrumental development work.
The 2024 Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award is awarded to Lucia Mandon for remarkable contributions to planetary science, specifically by characterising the mineralogy and alteration, with infrared spectroscopy, of the Jezero crater explored by the Mars2020 mission.
The 2023 Runcorn-Florensky Medal is awarded to Tristan Guillot for fundamental contributions to the study of the formation, interior and atmosphere of giant planets and exoplanets, and for his inspirational leadership across multiple fields in planetary sciences.
The 2023 Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award is awarded to Tim Lichtenberg for outstanding research in cosmochemistry and planet formation, with emphasis on volatile cycling between atmospheres and planetary interiors, and especially with regard to magma oceans.
The 2023 Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Award is awarded to Kristian Chan RIME-REASON Synergistic Opportunities for Surface and Near-surface Investigations of Icy Moons
In our April Issue, we reflect on EGU24 our biggest General Assembly so far, all the science covered and special events, and ask for your help planning for EGU25 by filling out our quick feedback survey.
Just because the meeting has ended doesn’t mean EGU stops working for you though! If you have stirred up some media interest in your research recently, why not check out our Resource of the Month, the EGU Science-Media Toolkit, get all your Science for Policy questions answered at our next EGU #science4policy Hangout on 6 May and join the first in a new webinar series Uneven Ground examining fieldwork barriers for women, on 7 May.
