Welcome to the February newsletter of the EGU Hydrological Sciences Division! This month, we are inviting you to submit abstracts to upcoming conferences in Roorkee, Tokyo, and Bologna, participate in a survey on science communication in hydrology, join the EGU25 mentoring programme, and apply for funding for conference series and EDI participation support. Plus, we are looking for a new Early Career Scientist representative!

FROM SCIENCE TO PEOPLE: EXPECTING THE UNEXPECTED IN FLOOD AND DROUGHT RISK MANAGEMENT

Join the upcoming Leonardo conference at the University of Bologna in Italy. It focuses on bringing together international hydrologists to discuss how novel scientific findings and methods can assist mitigating the impact of hydrological extremes. Abstract submissions are open until March 31!

JOIN THE THE 2ND INTERNATIONAL SOCIOHYDROLOGY CONFERENCE - TOKYO 2025

The 2nd International Sociohydrology Conference, co-organized by the IAHS Human-Water Feedbacks Commission, will be held from July 19 to 21, 2025, in Tokyo, Japan. It focuses on expanding and mainstreaming sociohydrology toward transdisciplinary praxis, gathering researchers and practitioners from around the world to explore innovative approaches for bridging science and practice in water-related fields. CONTRIBUTE YOUR OPINIONS ON SCIENCE COMMUNICATION!

Science communication is integral in achieving the goals of HELPING, the new scientific decade of the IAHS. An online survey now aims to gauge the attitudes, experiences, and wishes of the hydrological community on the subject, to adjust strategies and optimize communication. The results will be published in a community paper. Contribute your unique perspectives today! Deadline: February 15.

SUBMIT A LEONARDO CONFERENCE PROPOSAL!

The EGU's call for Topical Events proposals is now open. For hydrologists, this means you can get 8,000 € of funding for organizing Leonardo Conferences on Earth's Hydrological Cycle, with a focus on topical questions related to water and its interactions with environment and society, with particular attention to water resources management, flood risk mitigation and environmental protection. Deadline: May 16.

If you require financial assistance to attend EGU25 because you encounter significant EDI-related financial barriers, you can now apply for additional funding with the EGU Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Participation Support Scheme. This scheme works to promote equal opportunities to participation in the EGU general Assembly by offering support to individuals facing specific financial challenges, unrelated to their geographical location. Submit your application by 23 February 2025.
