Job description

The Environmental Geology group studies aquatic sediments to reconstruct past environments, and to understand biogeochemical element cycles. To do this, we conduct fieldwork (at land/at sea) and apply sedimentological, mineralogical and geochemical methods. This position will be filled to conduct the DFG project: „Diagenesis at depth: Coupled carbon-phosphorus-metal cycling in an Earthquake-dominated deep-sea trench system (Japan Trench, IODP Expedition 386)“.

Your tasks:
Geochemical analysis of sediment samples
Integration of own data with others from IODP Expedition 386
Interpretation of data in relation to the research question
Publication of results in international peer-review journals
Presentation of results at conferences
Support with conducting BSc and MSc theses

Your profile
University degree (Master) and PhD in geosciences, geology, environmental sciences, or a related subject
Experience with inorganic-geochemical (ideally wet-chemical) analysis and interpretation of sediments and/or pore waters,
Experience with scientific publishing,
Ideally experience with IODP and interdisciplinary research,
English language skills,
Engaged, flexible, team-oriented and keen to learn
