Geoscience Ahead: joint agreement between EGU, AGU, AOGS and JpGU

3 June 2015

The American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Asia-Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS), the European Geosciences Union (EGU), and the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) collectively represent geoscientific communities around the globe together with other societies for geoscientists.

The leadership of these four organisations met for the first time during the Annual Meeting of JpGU in May 2015. They took part in the special union session Geoscience Ahead – which was organised to commemorate and celebrate the 25th anniversary of JpGU – to exchange views and to discuss future directions and collaborations. Afterwards, they signed a joint communication summarising the outcome of this discussion.

The participants of the Anniversary Symposium have agreed to meet annually at one of the annual meetings of AGU/AOGS/EGU/JpGU to continue the discussion and to implement action plans to better serve the global geoscience communities, and hence advancing science to cope with global issues affecting the well being of the future state of Earth and humankind.
