Policy-related science pages completed on the EGU website

20 June 2016

The EGU is developing its engagement with science-for-policy activities. This comes after the appointment of a Science Policy Fellow last autumn and includes an updated policy section on the EGU website.

A highlight from this section includes overviews of major EGU research areas that are directly related to policy issues. The topics focus on EU priority areas and include subjects such as natural hazards, climate change, and water resources. Each scientific theme features an introduction, which explains its policy importance, an overview of key EU legislation, future challenges that need addressing, and a summary of the main research topics conducted by EGU member scientists, as well as policy-relevant papers recently published in EGU journals.

The website section also features resources to help interested scientists learn more about the policy process and how science should be communicated to policy officials. Scientists who wish to take an active role in supporting policy are encouraged to sign up to either the EGU’s Database of Expertise, or the EU’s H2020 Database of Experts, where they can be contacted when relevant opportunities emerge.
